Gabriela Mora – Venezuela
Before I started coaching sessions with Meredith I was experiencing so many changes in my life that made me lost confidence in myself. I had always been a very confident woman. However, when I moved to Australia from my home country Venezuela, after failing many times an English test I needed to approve to change my legal status from student to permanent resident, I started feeling that I was not good enough and that perhaps the goal that I had set for myself was impossible to reach. Not only this, but also homesickness was almost pushing me to quit.
I remember that in our first session we started working in the belonging feeling. By that time I felt that I belonged nowhere, because I did not belong to Venezuela anymore as I had left the country, but I did not belong to Australia either. I was also going out from a relationship and thought that I will no longer be able to find anyone else. Meredith helped me to find the way to start feeling that I belonged here and that no matter the obstacles, I would be able to sort them out. We worked with visualizations and affirmations, among other tools.
Although the path was not easy I was able to succeed in the IELTS English test. But more than that, during the process I started recovering the trust in myself. This has been the biggest growing process I have experienced in my whole life and Meredith was always there to help me to find the right answer. She never told me what to do, instead she led me to find out what was the best decision to make by myself.
After I passed the test I almost immediately obtained the permanent residency, then I got a professional job in a multinational company after having been working as a cleaner and waitress for more than a year. I also started a new relationship and all the pieces started to fit in. I could say that my life changed overnight but actually it was the result of some months of coaching sessions and hard work being now materialized.
There was, however, another hard time for me and I came back to Meredith again. In my home country where my family still lives, it started a series of protests against the government where more than one hundred people died over three months. I was completely devastated, felt powerless, worried and affected by this situation. I started finding it very hard to concentrate at work and feeling extremely sad.
This time I had a long session with Meredith because I could not find what the main reason for me to be affected was. But after we finished the session it was as if everything was clear to me again. I realized that there were things that I could control and others that could not, and I should focus on those ones that I could control. Since that moment I started making decisions that although were not easy were necessary to make. For me that was a turning point in my life, and now every time I face difficult situations I remind myself to focus on the things that are under my control.
The best outcome I have gotten from the coaching sessions is the way I have learnt to face problems. This is something that I will continue applying for the rest of my life, if at some point I feel that I need some coaching again, I will come back to Meredith again. I would also highly recommend to anyone who is struggling in any aspect of their life, to invest in the coaching with Meredith. For me, the benefits you can get are largely more valuable than the money and will always remain with you.
